Former midfielder Frank Lampard wants Luke Shaw to start in England’s Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands.
The Manchester United left-back has struggled for fitness since the start of the tournament and only made his first appearance at Euros, Promotion ufabet coming on as a 78th-minute substitute in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland, which they won on penalties to secure a place in the semi-finals.
Lampard sees Shaw as providing balance to the team’s left-sided attack and, if fit, should be available at left-back for the Three Lions.
“I think if he’s fit he’ll start,” Lampard told the Ufabet of Shaw. “He gives England a balance, he looks pretty good when he comes on. If he’s fit I’ll play him for sure.”
As Rio Ferdinand added: “Luke Shaw gives us balance again,” and when asked if Shaw should start the semi-final, Rio said: “Maybe, it’s a big thing. Look into his eyes and ask him. If he gives the right answer then he will play.”
While England were unable to beat Switzerland in normal time, Bellingham believes the Three Lions produced their ‘best performance of the tournament’ to advance to the semis.
‘All in all it’s probably our best performance of the tournament,’ Bellingham said. ‘We’ve very proud of the boys.
‘The things you can’t always measure and see is character and mentality and we showed that again in the shootout. For subs to come on and take a penalty in that pressure is a special, special thing.’
On the shootout, Bellingham added: ‘I do the practice like all the other lads and I have my process. I rely on the practice I do.
‘Sometimes you can step up and miss. I always think there’s a comfort when you’re following a process you’ve come to terms with.’
